A new tunnel called ‘Atal Tunnel’ to run Vistadome buses in Rohtang

The tunnel will provide a year round connectivity to Ladakh.

The new 8.8-kilometer tunnel in Rohtang will run Vistadome buses with a glass rooftop. This will be a new addition to the many tourism-related infrastructure projects. The ‘Atal Tunnel’ of Rohtang is scheduled to be inaugurated next month.

This tunnel will shorten the 8-hour journey from Manali and Leh by 5 and a half hours. The chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, Mr. Jairam Thakur said that the idea behind these development projects is to increase the tourism potential of Himachal. The tunnel and the introduction of the Vistadome buses will beneficial for tourists visiting the state of Himachal.

The tunnel will provide an all year round connectivity to Ladakh. Usually, during the winter season, the Rohtang pass stays closed and it is open only for a few months which allows tourists to travel.

This tunnel is also strategic for the movement of military personnel during critical times. Also, the connectivity to Jammu, Kashmir, Lahaul, and Spiti will be established as well.
