A Paragliding Centre to be developed in Bir-Billing area of Himachal Pradesh

Paragliding activities are scheduled to start from September 15th.

The state government of Himachal Pradesh has allocated a significant budget for the development of a Paragliding Centre in the Bir-Billing area. The Bir-Billing area became famous after India’s first Paragliding World Cup in 2015.

Since 2015, the sport has gained immense popularity in India and among the enthusiasts from all over India. Especially tourists come to visit India and take part in this adventure activity which is the most popular attraction in Bir and Billing.

This year in October, another World Cup event was supposed to happen in Himachal Pradesh. But, due to the pandemic, the plans to host the event has been scrubbed. There is no clear announcement about re-hosting the event anytime sooner in India. However, people in India are still enthusiastic to take park in the Paragliding activity which will start again this month for the tourists.

After becoming a renowned destination or Paragliding, many locals have found employment and the place has attracted tourists from all over India.

According to the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Mr. Jai Ram Thakur, there is currently no plan to set up a National Paragliding School in Himachal Pradesh. Instead, the Department of Tourism will be constructing a Paragliding Centre in Bir. The Tourism Ministry said that the work has already started.

The Paragliding take-off point is the Billing area and the landing spot is in Bir. Bir is popular for many Buddhist monasteries and Tibetan refugees.

After several months of lockdown, the people involved in Paragliding suffered financial setbacks. After the announcement, many locals are happy to learn about the possibilities of boost in tourism activities.

The Paragliding activities are expected to start from September 15th. Also, this month it is expected that relaxations on the tourists will be announced to boost tourism in Himachal Pradesh.
