Since the lockdown, the worst-hit industry is that of Tourism. Himachal Pradesh is one of the most visited states for domestic and international tourism. Recent data showed that approximately 200,000 people lost their jobs in the tourism sector. These people depended on their businesses for their livelihood. They even demanded a relief package from the government to help themselves out of the crisis.

Many young people who had their businesses related to adventure tourism have been hit the worst. The activities they specialized in were mountain biking, paragliding, river rafting, etc. Along with the many small restaurants, café’s, and hotels lost their source of income as well. Some of the local villagers also depended on the tourists for their livelihood. During the summer months, lots of tourists are expected. But due to the crisis, this season seems to bring no revenue for these people.

In the district of Kullu, more than 300 agents running their paragliding business are feeling the effect of the lockdown. It was reported that a lot of women in the small villages have lost their only source of income. These women were involved in selling their handicrafts and clothing.
