A crack was spotted on the runway, so the Bagdogra airport operations have been shut down

For 15 days in the month of April, Bagdogra Airport will remain closed. Considering this, flight operations will be affected. With thousands of tourists passing through every year, this airport is considered a gateway to the hill stations of Gangtok, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong, Mirik, and other parts of North Bengal.

Mentioning the same decision, the authorities at Bagdogra Airport tweeted, “for refurbishing works on the sole runway, the airport will remain shut from April 11 to April 25.” Regarding resurfacing work of the last layer of the flexible portion of the runway, on the said dates, the airport will be closed for operations.

Recently, a crack was spotted on the runway, so the Bagdogra airport operations have been shut down for the second time in seven days. When the Indian Air Force operated air traffic control detected a problem with the runway, all flights were canceled. This was stated by the airport officials.

Many people’s travel plans will be impacted because it is a major transportation hub in the region.

Passengers who made up their minds to fly there or bought flight tickets to or from Bagdogra will definitely need to revise their plans, said a representative of an airline company.

According to the reports, there has been no official statement or sign by the central government or concerned authorities about the change in the decision.
