Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh is considering the extension of the lockdown

Mr. Jai Ram Thakur, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh mentioned that he is considering extending the lockdown period for the state. He mentioned this during the national virtual meeting between the ministers of the state with the Prime Minister of India.

Mr. Jai Ram Thakur said that more than 50,000 residents of Himachal are stranded outside the state. These people are waiting to go home desperately. However, in the last week, around 1300 state residents were brought back home which resulted in the spike of new coronavirus cases.

According to the Chief Minister, it is a matter of serious worry that the virus spread will increase in the state. Also, the responsibility to bring back residents of Himachal needs to be fulfilled.

Various official mobile apps are being used to keep the movement of the quarantined people in check.

Another major concern for the state government is the economy. Due to the lockdown, the local businesses have faced a huge setback. According to the Chief Minister, the steps will be taken to allow the economic activities to function even with the extension of the lockdown.

Mr. Thakur also announced the writing off of the electricity charges for the businesses associated with the tourism sector. This write off period is of six months. Tax cuts and many other government fee reductions have also been given.
