Debris Pile-Up Blocks Badrinath National Highway in Uttarakhand

Further heavy rains are expected in the coming weeks in North India

On August 3, the Badrinath National Highway in Uttarakhand, India, was blocked at two locations, Nandaprayag and Chhinka, due to debris.

Chamoli Police shared visuals on Twitter showing a significant pile of debris on the road. Earlier, on Tuesday, the road near Pipalkoti on the same highway was also blocked due to debris. Additionally, the Chungi Badethi tunnel on the Gangotri National Highway in the Uttarkashi district is under threat of damage due to landslides in the surrounding area, raising concerns among authorities.

The District Disaster Management Officer has informed the relevant executive body about the tunnel’s safety situation.
