Expansion of pilgrimage sites, travel modes to be discussed by India

India and Pakistan has shown some solid interests in introducing more modes of travel

Recently, a new Discussion was initiated by India and Pakistan for the people of both Nations who have various interests in traveling to the other country. It has been noticed that the government of India and Pakistan has shown some solid interests in introducing more modes of travel and opening up religious sides for the pilgrims of both Nations.

If this discussion converts into a solid Action Plan, the pilgrims and devotees of both sides will be able to easily travel and make a visit to the respective places of religion. Although an existing protocol is already in the picture a new proposal has been initiated to expand it further as per the reports. It has been mentioned that the number of pilgrim sites will also be expanded.

Arindam Bagchi, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in a media briefing informed about India’s positive approach towards this issue and its readiness to talk with Pakistan.

He also mentioned the 1974 protocol between India and Pakistan. According to this protocol, visits to religious shrines in either nation are regularly being facilitated. but as per the recent discussion, both sides are showing interest to expand the list of pilgrim sites and shrines including the mode of travel

According to Pakistani media, reportedly the Pakistan Hindu Council offered to fly around 150 Pakistani Hindu pilgrims from Karachi to Jaipur. But according to them because of a non-clearance from India, the trip has to be postponed.

Bagchi agrees to the fact that this discussion must happen under the protocol. Also, he mentioned India’s positive approach on this particular matter And its willingness to engage with Pakistan. But the other fact that surrounds this discussion is the restrictions and strict guidelines on the movement due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. So, It is only normal that once the situation Is normalized this discussion can be more beneficial.

Once covid-19 restrictions are properly removed the discussion for expansion can be discussed under the 1974 protocol, according to a statement given by India.
