How Lakshadweep stayed COVID-Free despite rising cases in the rest of India

The government and locals are working towards keep the islands COVID-Free for as long as possible.

The coronavirus outbreak is creating panic throughout India with more and more new active cases are reported. It is feared that India will surpass the US in the total number of cases and become the number 1 infected nation in the world. However, despite all this, the islands of Lakshadweep have remained COVID-Free.

Lakshadweep is situated off the South-Western coast of India and is considered a Union Territory. Presently, Lakshadweep has not even reported one single COVID case so far. Even after seven months, the locals have managed to avoid the infection to enter their community.

Lakshadweep is a collection of 36 islands which have remained free from coronavirus due to many measures taken by its government. There is a huge network of people engaged in constant screening and testing of people and preparing the quarantine facilities way before the rise in the number of infections. Lakshadweep currently has a population of 64,000 people and they have done a great job in shielding their people from the COVID-19.

The ban on both domestic and foreign tourism was imposed very early. The entry of people and goods through the ports was strictly monitored. People strictly following the guidelines and it has resulted in the positive outcome for the Lakshadweep.

There are still a few restrictions that still in place for the islands and people are trying to best keep the islands free from COVID. Presently, the large gatherings of more than 100 people are not allowed in Lakshadweep. However, small gatherings are allowed.

People and the government are aware of the limited medical facilities on the islands and they are doing their best to avoid any situation where there is a possibility of contracting the infection.
