An Indian organization called ICMR (Indian Council Medical Research) announced that it is developing a vaccine for coronavirus. According to ICMR, the strain of the virus has been studied by the laboratory at the National Institute of Virology in Pune. This strain will be used in the development of the vaccine.

With the partnership of Bharat Biotech International Limited, the development process has started.

The following report by Economic Times & Times Now details the progress of the development so far.

According to the WHO, there are over 100 vaccines currently being developed throughout the world. Some of these are already going through the evaluation process.

The vaccine generally takes a long time to develop. The long process is due to the fact that its safety on humans needs to be ensured. However, ICMR officials said that they are doing their best to expedite the process as much as possible. It is estimated that it would take around a year’s time to develop the vaccine. During this time several animal and human trials will be done.

Meanwhile, the current number of Coronavirus cases has reached around 67,000. It is feared that the community spread has already started and the spike in the new cases will be seen soon.
