The Atal tunnel has seen a great increase in tourist numbers since it was inaugurated. There have been several traffic jams that were reported due to the heavy tourist influx. Since its inauguration, the Atal tunnel has been a popular attraction on itself. The route starting from Atal tunnel to Lahaul valley leading up to Darcha is now accessible to all the tourists.

Due to several natural calamities last year, tourism activities slowed down. Calamities such as flash floods, landslides, and heavy rainfall had claimed several lives. This was the reason to close down the highway and restrict tourist movement.

Presently, the highway will be open for a particular time. Tourists will be allowed to move from 9 am and 3 pm. Tourists traveling outside this time will have to return to their hotels. Following is the news article from ‘Times of India’ reporting about the recent opening of the Atal Tunnel.
