Manali-Leh highway closed due to landslide at Nehru Kund

No lives have been lost and no report of any property damage until now.

Another landslide occurred yesterday (Wednesday) night due to which the national highway got blocked. The Manali-Leh highway has been blocked for more than 24 hours. The landslide occurred at the place called ‘Nehru Kund’ which is located at a distance of 5 kilometers from Manali.

This highway is the major highway that is a critical connection from Manali to Keylong. No lives were lost as a result of the landslide. But, there was a huge traffic jam that caused havoc among locals and tourists. The clearing work has already started and machines are working to clear the highway.

Last week, there was a landslide at Chaura that blocked Shimla-Kinnaur and created massive traffic jams. Another landslide has blocked the Chandigarh-Manali highway near the Pandoh area. Due to the heavy rainfalls, landslides and flash floods have been quite a common occurrence.

Tourists are being advised not to travel for another 2 weeks. There is still some rainy weather expected in the coming week. More landslides might happen. Following is the recent report by ‘Hindustan Times’ about the landslide that happened yesterday night.
