Manali-Leh highway witness Avalanche as extreme cold gets ahold of Himachal

The weather in Himachal is not yet ready to calm down

Places like Kangra and Bilaspur received rainfall, whereas Shimla and Manali received heavy snowfall. The weather in Himachal is not yet ready to calm down. An avalanche took place on Monday at Mooling on the Manali-Leh national highway. The avalanche ended up disrupting the traffic.

Manav Verma, superintendent of police in Lahaul-Spiti mentioned that they have advised all the stakeholders to be very cautious for the next few days. The People also have been advised to inform the disaster control room before they travel. Since Sunday, the high-altitude regions of Himachal have been witnessing constant snowfall.

The weather in Himachal has been ferocious for a while now and it experienced intense cold after it witnessed fresh snowfall and rain. The mercury and temperature decreased drastically. According to the weather reports, on Sunday night Khadrala got 71.1cm of snowfall, Shilaroo 29.1cm, Kalpa 25cm, Gondola 20cm, Sangla 19cm, and Kufri 14cm. Shimla, the capital town received 15cm of snow and the tourist resort in Manali received 10 cm of snow.

As far as rain is concerned, the wettest place was Naina Devi in Bilaspur which recorded 52.2mm of rainfall. Sangrah recorded 52mm of rainfall and Dharamshala recorded 40.2mm of rainfall. Bilaspur experienced 40 mm of rainfall followed by Kangra recorded 34mm.

Maximum temperature dips down below normal

. Surender Paul, the director of Shimla meteorological center mentioned that although the minimum temperatures were normal since Sunday, it has been noticed that the maximum temperature has dipped 3-4 degrees below normal. He also said that the average maximum temperature was seen to be dipped by 7-8 degrees, which is below normal.

The coldest place at minus 9 degrees Celsius was Reckoned to be the administrative headquarters of Lahaul-Spiti district, Keylong. The recorded temperature at Kufri turned out to be minus 3 degrees celsius. Dalhousie witnessed a low minus 2 degrees temperature, while Shimla and Manali witnessed a low temperature of 0 degrees. Palampur witnessed 3.5 degrees Celsius and Dharamshala was at 2.2 degrees.
