New Energy Policy 2021 approved by Himachal Pradesh Cabinet

Himachal Pradesh approved the Swaran Jayanti Energy Policy 2021

The Himachal Pradesh cabinet on Friday approved the Swaran Jayanti Energy Policy, 2021. An additional 10,000 MW of green energy by 2030 will be added and green energy sources will be developed.

The policy is ambitious and aims at developing a proper and effective transmission network in the state by creating a proper master plan for transmission which in turn will help ease up further planning and execute the hydro and solar projects timely.

The major areas that are stressed according to the policy are renewable energy sources, including solar, wind, biomass, and other non-conventional energy sources.

The Himachal Pradesh Swarnim Jayanti Sports Policy, 2021, was also given approval by the cabinet. The policy lays emphasis on developing, maintaining, and optimally utilizing high-quality sports infrastructure, encouraging public-private participation in creating sports infrastructure, coordinating with educational institutions for the promotion of sports, and encouraging, training, and supporting sportspersons for participation and excellence in national and international championships with high standards of ethics.

For long-term sports development, recognizing and honoring talent in sports and rewarding young women and men who have achieved excellence in sports science research in training is to be introduced according to the policy.

The cabinet gave ex post facto approval for 100 percent waiver/ exemption of token tax, special road tax, and passenger tax of various categories of vehicles to provide relief to the transporters keeping in view the effect due to the pandemic.

An approval to create a new division of the public works department at Shahpur in Kangra district and a sub-division at Drini was also given by the cabinet.

Approval was also given to restructuring state taxes and the excise department. Creation and filling up of posts would be carried out by the department in a phased manner in consultation with the finance department and in sync with the restructuring proposal.
