New Year celebrations in Puducherry amid Omicron permitted by Madras High Court

Despite the rising number of Omicron cases, there has not been any strict travel restriction yet.

New Year celebrations are allowed, but restrictions on liquor buying are restricted in Puducherry on New Year. This decision was taken by The Madras High Court. The court has officially permitted Puducherry to go ahead with the New Year celebrations. But according to them, some restrictions on the sale of liquor are mandatory. The liquor must not be sold from 10 PM (December 31) to 1 AM (January 1, 2022). Also, only restaurants with a special liquor license will be allowed to serve alcohol on the New Year celebrations.

After monitoring, two cases of Omicron variant were discovered in Puducherry. Keeping this in mind, the court has still approved New Year celebrations but has not neglected the strict COVID-19 protocols. The Union Territory will make various teams of health, revenue, and police officials who will personally monitor the celebrations. There will be a close check on all the activities.

A three-day grand celebration for New Year 2022 has been planned by the Puducherry administration. Random testing will be conducted by the health department and if anyone is found symptomatic, he/she will not be allowed to enter the celebration venues in Puducherry.

The most amazing and much-awaited event is being organized at Old Port for three days which are December 30, 31, and January 1. Also, the tourists from India and even abroad have already reached Puducherry as all the hotels are fully booked.

As of now, only 2000 to 3000 guests would be allowed entry for the program. There will be live music performances and dance shows as well.
