Pfizer, Moderna, and Serum Institute seeking indemnity protection for their vaccines.

The Indian government is reviewing the request of the vaccine makes that give them legal protection against any vaccine-related issues.

The Indian vaccine company Serum Institute of India (SII), which is producing the Covid-19 vaccine under the name ‘Covishield’ has submitted a request to the Indian government seeking legal protection against any claim related to their vaccines. The same legal protection is being sought by the vaccine companies, Pfizer and Moderna.

Under the legal protection also known as ‘Indemnity’ will protect these companies from any issues resulting from their vaccines. These include any major health issues faced by people who get vaccinated from them or any other legal issues. With more and more people claiming serious side effects after vaccinations, it is a matter of concern that these companies are seeking legal protection against themselves.

Recently, there has been a major shortage of vaccine supplies. Due to this increased demand for vaccines, the Indian government ordered more vaccines from all major vaccine makers. According to the recent announcements made by the government, India will get fully vaccinated by December.

Presently, only three vaccines are being used in India. These include Covishield by Serum Institute of India, Covaxin by Bharat Biotech, and Russia’s Sputnik V. Yesterday on 2nd June 2021, Pfizer and Moderna officially asked the government for legal protection before sending the vaccines to India.

As of now, no legal protection has been given to the vaccine makers. The Indian government officials are still reviewing the case and are likely to announce their decision soon. Pfizer has already received legal protection in the US and the UK.

Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines have been reported to have side effects and many people have been speaking against the safety of these vaccines. There have been reports about blood clots, heart attacks, strokes, and infertility among people who took vaccines from these vaccine makers.
