Pochampally in Telangana listed in the best tourism villages by the UNWTO

'Pochampally Ikat' has been given a Geographical Indicator tag as well.

The beautiful village of Pochampally in the state of Telangana has been added to the list of the best tourism villages by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation. This is great news for the tourism stakeholders in Telangana as it will be adding a great boost in the tourism activities in Telangana.

The Union Ministry of Telangana has announced a new Rural Tourism Policy under which the local traditions, arts, and craftsmanship will be promoted to the world. This is a great initiative to create more jobs for the locals and to enhance the local economy.

In the last few months, many locations in India have received recognition from UNESCO. This is created a positive outlook for the tourist destinations in India. Some unique souvenirs from Chamba and Lahaul also received GI tags which made the local arts and crafts popular among the tourist community. These recognitions are aimed towards boosting the tourism economy of India and making the tourist destinations popular.

Pochampally village is located in the Nalgonda district of the state of Telangana. This village is popular for its silk and silk-woven sarees. These sarees are unique and are famously known as ‘Pocampally Ikat’. It has received the Geographical Indicator (GI Status) in the year 2004.

Other popular villages that are recognized by UNWTO are the Kongthong village in Meghalaya, Ladhpura Khas in Madhya Pradesh, and Pochampally in Telangana.
