Rain-Induced Landslides and Floods Shutdown 330 Roads in Himachal Pradesh

Heavy monsoon rains have created bad transport conditions

Heavy monsoon rains in Himachal Pradesh have triggered landslides, flash floods, and road closures, causing significant damage to infrastructure and resulting in casualties. Public Works Department Minister Vikramaditya Singh announced that 330 roads, including the Kalka-Shimla four-lane highway, have been closed due to these natural disasters.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari pledged a ₹400 crore package for the flood-hit Kullu district during his visit to the state. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Gadkari surveyed affected areas and interacted with locals. The state has reported nearly 200 rain-related deaths and 31 missing persons during the past 41 days of monsoon onset. The disaster management authority highlighted increasing loss of life and infrastructure damage as rains continue.

Over 700 houses, shops, and cow sheds have been damaged, and numerous landslides and floods occurred. The state remains on alert due to further heavy rain warnings from the meteorological department.
