Rescue Operations Launched as Massive Landslide Hits Shimla’s Summer Hill Region

Over 55 lives have been lost due to rain-related incidents

A major landslide hit Shimla’s Summer Hill area, prompting a search and rescue operation with no immediate casualties. The Indian Air Force airlifted 18 soldiers to aid rescue after earlier landslides. Ongoing heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh caused damage, including house collapses in Shimla.

Over 55 lives have been lost due to rain-related incidents. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu intensified disaster management due to a 157% surge in 4-day rainfall, focusing on road clearance and utility restoration. Fallen trees from urban expansion are being addressed by the Forest Department.
