Serum Institute in India will develop the Russian Sputnik V vaccine for India

The vaccine production is expected to start in the month of September 2021

The vaccine producer from India called The Serum Institute of India (SII) has agreed to develop and produce the Sputnik V vaccine in India. The Serum Institute of India and the Russian Direct Investment Fund will work together in executing the development of the Covid vaccine. The Russian Direct Investment Fund will fund the production of the vaccine and will also take care of the marketing of the vaccine.

It is estimated that the SII will develop more than 300 million doses of the Sputnik V vaccine. The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has approved the testing license to Serum Institute for its upcoming vaccine.

The CEO of Serum Institute of India seemed hopeful to start the development of the new vaccine starting September. Due to the lack of sufficient vaccines, the need for new and different vaccines is much greater in India. There has been a huge shortage of much-needed vaccines throughout India.

Sputnik V is known as an adenoviral vaccine which is a single-dose vaccine. It has been found to be 90% effective against the coronavirus. With all these developments in the vaccine market, there is still a lot of vaccine hesitancy in the country which the government is not addressing effectively.
