Taj Mahal damaged due to heavy thunderstorm

A significantly strong thunderstorm that occurred on May 29th caused damage to the complex of the Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal is the national heritage of India and one of the most loved wonders of the world. The damage was done to the main gate and the railing below the dome section.

The officials in charge of the maintenance of the mausoleum are inspecting further damages. According to the official report given, the sandstone railing has been damaged. Along with this one of the marble railings, a false ceiling for the tourists and the stone at the base of the main gate is also damaged. However, the main structure has no damage reported.

The thunderstorm resulted in the death of 13 people throughout the state of Uttar Pradesh. During this time of the year, heavy rainfall and storms are expected. It is feared that more severe storms are to be seen during the monsoons. More than 100 people were killed last year due to the storms and the lightning in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
