Meghalaya is known to be one of the most beautiful places to visit in India. It is popularly known as the ‘The house in the clouds’. This Indian state is full of natural beauty and biodiversity.

Meghalaya is a very popular tourist destination in the North-East India. Its natural beauty and its culture attracts tourists from all over India and abroad. Meghalaya is surrounded by mountains and its placement is such that it gives an amazing scenic view from many locations throughout the state. The state of Meghalaya constants works towards promoting tourism which is in tune with the nature.

Many natural forests are spread throughout the state and is home to many species of birds and wild animals. Some parts of the forests are reserved fro the religious rituals that are part of their culture.

Another unique feature of this state is that all assets within the family are transferred from Women to women. Usually Daughters get the family assets such as land from their mothers and it gets transferred through generations of women.

A reserve called Nokred Biosphere Reserve a national park by the name Balaphakram were created to conserve the biodiversity of the area. Many wildlife sanctuaries have also been built with rich diversity of birds and animals.

Another popular place is Cherrapunji which is well known as the wetter place on Earth. Caves and forests with rubber tree plants entangled together is a popular tourist attraction.

The forests are also full of natural waterfalls. A popular village called ‘Maylynnon Village’ is well known as the cleanest village in Asia. This village works hard in proper waste management and disposal.
