The current state of Uttarakhand’s tourism guidelines

The state government is offering discounts to attract the tourists.

According to the recent updates and announcements by the Tourism Ministry of Uttarakhand, the guidelines for inter-state travel have been updated.

As per the experts, Uttarakhand is trying its best to balance the safety of people and the revival of tourism. The fact remains that the locals are mostly dependent on tourism activities for their livelihood. The businessmen and all the key stakeholders in the tourism industry of the Uttarakhand have repeatedly requested to government to relax the restrictions for the tourists. The relaxations will encourage the tourists to visit the state and indulge in the tourism activities that will revive the businesses for the local people.

Recently, the state has relaxed various restrictions to make traveling easier for tourists. Previously the inter-state travel was banned and tourists from outside the state were not allowed to visit the key religious sites for the pilgrimage called ‘Char Dham Yatra’.

At present, the rules that remain are”

1. Presentation of the COVID negative medical report when entering the borders of Uttarakhand. All tourists must take the test and ensure that they are not carrying the infection before entering the state.

2. The online registration is still required for all travelers before entering the state borders.

3. There will be several thermal screenings that will be done for all tourists when they enter Uttarakhand.

Many hotels and homestays are offering various discounts to attract tourists. The State Government has also announced the ‘Tourists Incentive Coupons’ Scheme. Under this scheme, the tourists can avail Rs. 1,000 cash or 25% discount (whichever amount is lower) on the accommodation charges for up to 3 days of stay.

These incentives were announced to encourage tourism along with keeping the safety protocols in place. The incentive scheme is for hotel bookings that have already started in Dehradun, Mussoorie, and Nainital. Many other cities are starting to offer the same. According to the tourism officials, the coupon scheme will help in the revival of tourism in some way.

The state government has also announced that refunds will be provided to the tourists who have made advance bookings for Jim Corbett National Park. The park will remain closed until further notice. There is currently no announcement on when the park will be reopened.

The other states such as Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh have also decided to provide discounts on various accommodation services to attract tourists. The state of Madhya Pradesh has launched various campaigns to promote their key destinations such as Panchmari, Mandu, Ujjain, Bandhavgarh, and Kanha, etc.
