The Indian government has declared the new mutation of Covid variant as ‘variant of concern’

The Covaxin and Covishield are not considered effective on the new variant.

The new Covid variant labeled as ‘Delta-Plus’ has been reported in the states of Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra. The Indian government has announced it publicly that this new variant has a high-risk factor and is something to be concerned about.

Presently, the health officials are notifying people to maintain social distancing and avoid large gatherings to ensure that the new variant does not spread beyond the levels where medical infrastructure cannot handle the surge.

As per the testing done in various parts of the country, the new Delta-plus variant has been found in the following districts:

  • Ratnagiri
  • Sindhudurg
  • Mumbai
  • Thane
  • Palghar
  • Jalgaon
  • Palakkad
  • Pathanamthitta
  • Bhopal
  • Shivpuri

The government has made arrangements to contain the infections along with increasing the vaccinations throughout the country. The testing has also increased throughout the country where more and more data is being collected about the spread of the ‘delta-plus’ variant.

According to the recent announcements made by the medical experts, the vaccines Covishield and Covaxin are considered effective against the Delta variant. However, there is no concrete evidence that these current vaccines will be able to cure the new Delta-plus variant. The health secretary said that the new variant is one of the most dangerous variants to look out for.
