The Tourism Ministry of India is planning to promote ‘Buddhist Tourism’ in India

Many tour operators are working towards creating tour packages focused on Buddhism.

India has a rich spiritual history connected to Gautam Buddha, the renowned saint in Buddhist spirituality. There is a huge amount of Buddhist spiritual literature in India and India is also a destination for many Buddhist pilgrims.

His Holiness Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibetans also lives in Dharamsala, India. He is a practitioner of Tibetan Buddhism. Dalai Lama attracts many tourists and people to India who is interested in Buddhism.

Recently, Tourism minister Mr. Prahlad Singh Patel stated his interest in promoting tourism packages focused on Buddhist culture and heritage.

The recent webinar from the Ministry of Tourism was hosted by many Tour operators promoting their packages related to Buddhist sites and culture. The Indian Ministry of Tourism has already started plans in the development of tourism activities related to Buddhism in India.

The Tourism Minister also stressed upon installing signs in international languages for the popular Buddhist sites which give vital information for the international tourists.

Expansion of airports and connectivity between different sites within India are also part of the plan. Many tour operators have come together in the planning of Buddhist tourism.
