The vaccines from Pfizer and AstraZeneca are not effective against the Delta variant

Covishield vaccine in India has proved to be more effective against the Delta variant.

A recent study conducted by Oxford University states that the vaccines from Pfizer and AstraZeneca are not as effective on the Delta variant as expected. The study also claims that the ‘Covishield’ produced in the collaboration of Pfizer and BioNTech is much more effective on the Delta variant. The Covishield vaccine provides good protection against the delta variant.

Covishield is still the main vaccine that is being administered in India. In the coming weeks, some new vaccines will be introduced in India by the companies Zydus Cadila and Novovax. Both these companies are currently in the final phases of their vaccine trials on children. With the accelerated vaccination drive, a large part of the Indian population got vaccinated.

However, there is still a major gap in the supply chain. In many parts of India, vaccines are still in short supply. On the other hand, the Pfizer, Johnson and Johnson, and Moderna vaccines are still waiting for the final approval to be distributed in India. All these companies are waiting for legal protection it seeks to incase of any side effects from their vaccines.

Before the end of the year, it is expected that there will be enough vaccines will be launched in India. Although not all of these will be effective against all variants. Since there are many more variants being announced, more studies and clinical trials are required to produce vaccines. The number of cases has gone done in India, but in some places, a spike in the new cases is getting reported.
