Birding Paradise in India

When it comes to bird watching, India is one of the most amazing places. It’s one of the most accurate places to call the winter birds home during the cold months.

1. Great Rann of Kutch, Gujarat

This place is famously called the birding paradise in India. You can witness the most unique and exotic variety of birds at this place. Other than common cranes, you will also find birds such as Marshall’s Iora, the endemic White-naped Tit, Great Indian Bustard, and the Grey Hypocolius.

2. Sundarbans National Park, West Bengal

We all know that Sundarbans National park is the home to the royal Bengal tiger. But only a few of you may know that it is also home to many exotic bird species. Birds such as Butty Fish Owl and the Goliath Heron can be seen here.

Kingfishers are commonly seen here during the winter months. Also, the best way you can explore this destination is by boat.

3. Chopta, Uttarakhand

Much like the other places in Himalayan regions, it is better that you visit this place at the end of the season when the winter is over or right now when the weather is more pleasant. This is the perfect time when you can find exotic birds gathering around this place. The beautiful part is that we can find different boards guiding around as farther convenient in different locations. Forktails and Redstarts can be found near the streams.

4. Tal Chhapar, Rajasthan

More than 300 birds called this place their home but it is also the home of one of the largest blackbuck populations. Flocks of Demoiselle Cranes are found here in the grassland of the Tal Chappar Sanctuary, while birds such as Rosy Starlings and Harriers are seen flying around.

5. Mangalajodi, Odisha

This place is a splendid beauty that is a must-visit during the winter months. In all sense, it is a birding paradise that has more than 3,00,000 birds that call it home.  Water fowls are commonly seen here, apart from other beautiful rare birds.

6. Kaladeo National Park, Rajasthan

This place has two unique specialties. Firstly it is a UNESCO World Heritage site and it is also a natural nesting ground for birds. You will be taken aback by just the number of words found here. Also, the cherry on the top is that if you are a photographer then you can click great pictures of birds during the fog if you reach there early in the morning. It is one of the best places for all birding enthusiasts.

7. Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, Karnataka

Almost 222 species were recorded here during the winter months, and you will be in sheer luck to see some rare beauties here. Also, this is one of the oldest bird sanctuaries in Karnataka that is located on the outskirts of Mysore. This is one of the hidden gems that is a must-visit especially when the sanctuary is crowded by nesting birds in the winter months.

8. Kaziranga National Park, Assam

This place is just not renowned for one-horned rhinos that are pretty famous here it is also a very famous place for winter birding. Thousands of birds make this home every year, as it has been identified as an Important Bird Area or IBA. You can easily spot Egrets, Herons, and Cormorants here.
