Tourists rush to Himachal causing huge traffic jams and overcrowding in hotels

Tourists from Punjab, Delhi and Haryana are travelling to Himachal Pradesh to escape the summer heat.

After the easing of the lockdown restrictions and removing the need for the Covid-negative certificate, the tourists have shown up in thousands rushing towards Himachal Pradesh. There were huge traffic jams observed throughout the major highways leading to places like Manali, Shimla, and Dharamshala.

June is the hottest month of the summer season and the states like Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana are facing a heatwave that is making the daily lives truly uncomfortable for people. To escape the summer heatwaves, people rush to Himachal Pradesh which is the closest and among the favorite tourist destination in India.

However, yesterday, there was a new record set by the largest number of vehicles crossing the new Rohtang Tunnel leading to Manali. There were over 7200 vehicles recorded to cross through the Rohtang Tunnel. As a result, huge traffic jams were seen on all major highways because of incoming tourists

Many hotels got all of their rooms booked as a result of which many tourists were turned back and ended up spending their nights in their vehicles. This incident happened in the famous town of Shimla where all hotels got 100% booking.

This has also been good news for the hotel owners and tour operators as they are seeing a boost in their dormant economy. Over the past few weeks, the state of Himachal Pradesh has seen a huge surge of incoming tourists from all over India. It is expected that the number of tourists will increase in the coming months.

The traffic police are also monitoring people on whether they are wearing masks and maintaining social distancing or not. However, due to the huge number of tourists, this has become a very difficult task for the authorities to monitor everyone.
