Uttarakhand government issues new travel guideline and extends the Covid lockdown

A Covid-negative certificate and an advance hotel booking is required by all incoming tourists.

Due to the recent flash floods, landslides, and a huge surge in the number of incoming tourists, the government of Uttarakhand issues some strict rules. According to the new guidelines imposed by the Uttarakhand government, the lockdown will be enforced until 20th July.

Also, the number of tourists visiting the state of Uttarakhand will be controlled and monitored. Some of the popular destinations in Uttarakhand will have a limited allowed capacity during the weekends. These decisions were taken after many tourists were observed disregarding the Covid-appropriate-behavior. People were seen gathering in huge crowds without wearing masks and also not keeping the appropriate distance from other people.

The government of Uttarakhand has also made the Covid-testing mandatory for all incoming tourists. The tourists must carry a Covid-negative certificate for the test done at least 72 hours before entering Uttarakhand. Also, the tourists are required to have a booking in advance of their visit to the hotels and need to show the proof once they enter the state borders.

Tourists will be monitored for their behavior and strict action will be taken if they are not wearing masks or they are not maintaining proper social distancing guidelines. Hotels and restaurants are allowed to function with only 50 percent occupancy. Gyms, institutions, and malls will also be allowed only with 50 percent occupancy.

It has been observed a large number of tourists are visiting the popular destinations of Haridwar, Nainital, Mussoorie, and Rishikesh. With the increasing risk of mishaps due to bad weather and Covid infections, the government has decided to control the flow of tourists. The number of tourists allowed in Uttarakhand will be limited in the coming weeks.
